Messages to the Class of 2020

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!  What a year!  COVID-19 changed what should have been gatherings with your peers and making memories.  It gave you Zoom, learning from home and parades to celebrate special events in your lives.  It led you here to your first milestone, although not what you expected, you made it.  As you leave the hallowed halls of Avoca be proud of yourselves.  You are Avoca Strong and you are success stories.  You "Zoomed" through the last part of your year and now you are graduating.  You are the first class in Avoca's history that gets a drive thru diploma wearing a mask.  As you open the next chapter in your life remember that you will never fail if you are strong, proud, patient, kind, loving, honest, hardworking and trustworthy.  Good luck to you on your future endeavors. God Bless You All!
    - Mrs. Badeau

Congratulations class of 2020! Best wishes in your future endeavors!
    - Mrs. Bonham

Wow, it sure has been a crazy year. Don't let the craziness take away from the accomplishment that each of you has achieved by graduating. I wish each of you the best in your futures!
    - Ms. Bush

You all were my very first group of 8th grade students at Avoca Central School. What can I say - I absolutely loved your unique personalities so much that I chose to become your class advisor for the next four years! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching many of you develop work ethics like I've never seen before, storm your athletic seasons and thrive as you've gone through your high school years. To say your class stands out is an understatement. To the girls that I coached in Modified - you will always be dear to my heart for a (basically) undefeated season... (we won't count the anomaly that was the double-header at Bolivar-Richburg!). Being an advisor brings its challenges, but you all have made the time invested so very worth it. There is not a single shred of doubt in my heart that each of you is going to achieve the dreams you've set in your heart. You've managed to graduate despite a global pandemic - there is NOTHING that can truly stop you now. Thank you for sharing your high school years with me - it has been an absolute honor.
    - Ms. Cavagna

To the Class of 2020: You are a group who's been exposed to a lot of heartache during a year that's supposed to give you some of your fondest memories of high school. You are an immensely talented and disciplined group of young men and women who will undoubtedly move mountains. I'll miss you all, but I look forward to continuing to cheer you on as you move onto your next phase in life. As always, "be safe, and make good choices!"
    - Mr. Delles

To the Class of 2020 - You will be missed. Despite the unexpected ending to your time here at ACS, I wish you all the very best as you continue to the next chapter in your life. You all made the school a fantastic place to come everyday. I am excited to welcome you all as Avoca alumni. Please don't be a stranger, and share positive updates as you take on the world!
    - Dr. Denaker

Dear Class of 2020; I will sincerely miss the class of 2020. I met most of you while you were in the 4th grade and I had the privilege of teaching you Spanish. I knew then you were a very special class. I couldn't wait for you to be my students in the high school. You did not disappoint. I have many fond memories of all of you. All of your different personalities meshed together to make class a fun place to be. I'm really going to miss you all. Because you are amazing people I can't wait to see what amazing things you do in your life. You're so thoughtful and caring. When I was sick or sad you were there for me like no others. You'll always hold a special place in my heart. I've always told you the single most thing I wish for all of you is the gift of travel. You learn so much about yourself when you travel. I wish you the opportunity to see our beautiful country and world. I'm going to leave you with this quote by Jawaharial Nehru: "We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm, and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open". I wish you all a life full of positive, eye-opening adventures! Felicidades! (Congratulations) Sincerely,
    - Mrs. Fullmer

Congratulations to all. This year has certainly given you a peek in to the wild wide world that will be opening up to you. Reach for the stars.
    - Mrs. Gardner

To the Class of 2020, I am proud to have been a part of your time here at Avoca Central School. Rather you started your education here or joined us later, it has been a pleasure watching you turn into fine young adults. As you grow and change, stay true to yourself, develop quality relationships, and work diligently to fulfill your dreams. I have no doubt that your best years are yet to come!
    - Mrs. Helgeland

Dear Class of 2020, I always find it unfortunate, given the location of your lockers and classes, that I usually don't get to see students as much as I would like to during their senior year. I typically plan to make up for it by attending your games and other such events. What I have learned, especially over the last few months, is that plans change! For example, I planned on traveling to Glens Falls in March. After having to work the past four years, I also planned on going to graduation in June. On the flip side, I didn't plan in September to travel back to my Alma mater at SUNY Cortland! The adjustment in my plans, both good and bad, are few in number compared to all of the changes you've had to endure this spring. Although it saddens me greatly, I hope throughout the last 13 years you have gathered a large enough collection of memories, experiences and special moments with each other to forever keep you connected. You are smart, talented, artistic, athletic, creative, and stronger than you may think. Be determined to not only accept and create change, but also to persevere and leave your mark on the world. I wish you the very best of luck in all that you do. Continue to make us proud! With affection,
    - Mrs. House

I wish all of you the best on your new adventures. Keep reading!
    - Mrs. Kilbourne

Best of luck to the Class of 2020. I hope the lessons you learned here at Avoca prove useful in reaching the goals that you set for yourself in the future.
    - Mr. Klem

Congratulations to you all! You will be missed. Never forget that ACS is a place you are always welcome. As you take this next step remember to be kind and understanding. Embrace the lightness in mankind and be the change that fixes the darkness.
    - Ms. Mark

For the last thirteen years, I’ve watched you grow up in the classroom and the halls of ACS. It brought me joy to see you laugh with your friends, speak into a microphone in front of the whole school, work hard in the summers, pour your heart into success on the courts and field and continue the love of learning. You were always a special group of kids and even now, you shine brighter than the stars and show a strength as a senior class that has never been witnessed. I wish you well in all you do after graduation.
    - Mrs. Oliver

I want to wish the senior class the best of luck. You have all accomplished so much by making it this far, and I have no doubts that you will continue to make us proud. While this is not the end to your senior year that you probably would have wished for, you have shown your true character by persevering through these unique and challenging times. While your time in the halls of Avoca is coming to an end, you will always be Tigers!
    - Mr. Pfleegor

I remember watching you walk into school for your very first day of classes. Some of you excited to be starting a new adventure and some of you very unsure of that next step. Now you are getting ready to leave ACS and I am sure those feelings are back again. It has been a pleasure watching you all grow into the young men and young women you have become. The Class of 2020 has made history at Avoca school in many different ways. As you move onto that next chapter in your life, hold onto those memories that were made & go out there and make this world a better place. Each one of you are important and I wish you all the best as you move forward. To Shauna, I am going to miss having you at school, but I look forward to watching you continue to grow and follow the plans that you have been given. Congratulations to the Class of 2020, your mark here at ACS will not be forgotten.
    - Mrs. Pimm

First off, congratulations! It has certainly been an interesting end to your journey here at Avoca, but you persevered! It has been a lot of fun working closely with you guys the last four years. When I applied to be a class advisor, I did it because I knew that I would be working with a hardworking group of students. I truly enjoyed all the extra time I was able to spend with you guys and wish it hadn't been cut short. I'm sure you will miss my nagging as much as I will miss doing it (not at all). I know you all will do great things. I wish you all luck in the future!
    - Mrs. Richman

Although your senior year may not have ended as you would have liked it to end if you reflect not only your senior year but on all of your High School Years combined you will likely find that you truly have had an amazing experience. Take those experiences and build upon them...try new things and always remember that... "One Man Can Be A Crucial Ingredient On A Team, But One Man Cannot Make A Team." --Kareem Abdul Jabbar
    - Mr. Saxton

To the Class of 2020, You are graduating in a time that will be noted in the history books of the future. It is "a" defining moment of your high school career. It is not the "only" moment, however. Please don't let the last few months be what you remember exclusively about high school. Instead, remember the friends you've made. Be proud of all of the efforts you've put into homework, preparing projects, studying, and practicing for sports, plays, competitions, and musical performances. Remember the things you did in the various clubs and activities offered by the school and outside organizations you've joined. Think fondly of those times of joy, laughter, and achievement you've had over the years. Learn from those moments of sorrow, tears, and failure. For me, your class has the distinction of most of you being born in the year that I started working at Avoca. Your lives have spanned the course of my entire career. I remember seeing many of you as preschoolers. Though I've only known you personally for a few years, I've literally watched you grow up. Now you are graduating and moving on to the next step in your lives. For me, you will be remembered as more than "the class that was quarantined." Congratulations! I wish you all success and happiness in your future endeavors. With warm regards,
    - Ms. Sutherland

As I think about what has transpired over the past few months and what has been taken from all of you, I also try and think about how strong I know this class is. You all will persevere and "keep moving forward." As hard as it may be, please try and see the positive in all this. I am a parent of this class, and I say this class because we are all so close and have grown together since the PreK years, I will deeply miss everyone of you.
    - Mrs. Weldy

To the class of 2020: It was great getting to know some of you on the Boces bus and all the sports runs. I know you will do good things in this world. YOU ARE OUR FUTURE! Good Luck!
    - Ms. Wheeler

Seniors, Though the year may not be ending the way we all would like, that doesn't change how intelligent, motivated, and successful you all are! My hope for you as you leave Avoca is that you follow all your dreams and push yourselves to accomplish all you desire in life! Never settle for less than your best! Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors.
    - Mrs. Williams

Congrats to you all! Good luck in all of your future endeavors and always be the best version of you!
    - Mrs. Wood

My message is simple but sometimes tricky: Don't forget to take time to experience the good things that happen around us.
    - Mr. Zielinski
