Avoca Central School chapter of the National Honor Society volunteered at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier
On March 14, 2022, the Avoca Central School chapter of the National Honor Society put into practice one of the key pillars of their organization–Service Mindset and Action–by volunteering for the day at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier serves several counties in Western New York to deliver food, household supplies, health products, school supplies and more to families in need. For over forty years, hundreds of volunteers have worked to accomplish this mission.
The Avoca CSD National Honor Society delegation, consisting of 12 students and two advisors, spent three hours at the food bank sorting everything from shampoo and bottled water to canned foods. In total, they sorted 7,000 pounds of donated goods that will be given to local families in need.
