The search for a permanent Middle-High School Principal is currently underway.
The Avoca Central School District would like to announce that Middle-High School Principal Dr. Steven Denaker has resigned from his position with the district, effective January 14. Dr. Denaker, who has been with the district for three and a half years, will be assuming the role of Director of Learning Management Systems in the Rochester City School District. The Avoca school community wishes him well in his future endeavors.
Avoca alumni Michael Wright, a retired principal from Canisteo-Greenwood, has accepted the interim Middle-High School Principal position through the end of March. He has 34 years of experience in education, 15 of those as principal. Wright is currently coaching women’s basketball at Corning Community College and is a part-time dispatcher at the Bath Police Department.
“We’re thrilled that Mr. Wright has agreed to join our district as Interim Principal. He has a wealth of knowledge in education that will assist us in moving forward with our student-led Middle High School programming,” said Superintendent Stephen Saxton.
The search for a permanent Middle-High School Principal is currently underway. As Avoca looks to fill the vacancy, the district is seeking community members to participate in the interview process. Anyone interested in serving on the upcoming interview committees is asked to complete a Google form on the Avoca CSD website.
Two committees will be formed to meet the candidates on February 3, one will be composed of students and the second of support staff, teachers, administrators, parents and community members. A final interview with Superintendent Stephen Saxton is scheduled to take place on February 9. The Avoca Board of Education expects to appoint the new principal at the February 15 board meeting.
