Aug. 19 Letter from Superintendent Saxton

Dear Avoca Tiger Families,

This past Tuesday at the monthly Board of Education meeting, the Board tabled any specific plans regarding the opening of school, until more information can be gathered, and while awaiting anticipated guidance from the new New York State Governor when she takes office on August 25, 2021.

Although there are a great many uncertainties about opening school in September we know the following to be true at this time:

  • Our focus will be on having all students in school 5 days per week
  • Our focus will be on in-person instruction
  • We will maintain at least 3 feet of distance within classrooms
  • All drivers and riders on district transportation will be required to be masked
  • Contact tracing and quarantines will still apply when necessary

The Board of Education will be meeting again on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 to conduct regular school district business and make final decisions regarding the plan for opening school. We will communicate to you on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 the updated information and plan for the opening of the school year.

Reminder that our first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 8, 2021. We look forward to having our students back in the building and establishing some normalcy for them in relationship to school.

Sincerely,

Stephen C. Saxton

Superintendent
