The "Concussion Management and Awareness Act"; directs the commissioners of education and health to adopt and implement rules and regulations for the treatment and monitoring of students with mild traumatic brain injuries. It also requires school personnel to receive training in mild traumatic brain injuries; such rules and regulations shall apply to school districts and boards of cooperative educational services.
Requirements of School Districts
Education: Each school coach, physical education teacher, nurse, and athletic trainer will have to complete an approved course on concussion management on a biennial basis, starting with the 2012-2013 school year.
The link to the approved course is below. Once the course is completed, a downloadable certificate will be immediately available. Coaches must e-mail this certificate to Cody Delles, AD. You don't have to worry about keeping a copy for yourself, because the certificate will be available in your profile. Remember, you must take this course every two years - just like your CPR/AED training.
