    Construction Notice

    This has been a busy summer around the Avoca Central School District. As you may have noticed, there has been a lot of work both inside and outside of the building. Please be mindful of all signs around our facilities. For your protection, stay away from construction areas, and other areas clearly marked as closed. 

    Open Building Day

    Come join us for our Open Building Night or Open Building Day! This is a great time to follow your schedule, find your homeroom, set-up and decorate your locker (no stickers, please). Teachers will be available for a meet & greet on Tuesday, September 3 from 6:00pm-7:30pm. The building will also be open all day on Wednesday, September 4 from 9:00am-7:00pm. (Note, teachers and staff will not be available for meetings on September 4th due to staff trainings.)

    Legislation Change: School Vaccination Requirements

    As of June 13, 2019, there is no longer a religious exemption to the requirement that children be vaccinated against measles and other diseases to attend either: public, private or parochial school (for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade), or child day care settings.     Avoca is pleased to announce that we are now offering the convenience of online registration for athletic programs through FamilyID. This is a user-friendly platform that will enable families to register for programs. Our Junior-Varsity and Varsity teams have already begun practices. Our first practice for modified athletics is Thursday, September 5th. Please ensure your child is registered on familyid.com prior to the first day, to ensure no conflicts with practices. Mrs. Hammond, our school nurse, reviews submissions as they come in. Any communication from our school nurse, either giving positive clearance for your child (receiving a status of “approved”), or requesting more information or a more current physical (receiving a status of “not approved”), will come through the school district’s FamilyID account.

    As always, our athletic website has the most up-to-date information for our community. 

    School Supplies

    This year, the district will continue to provide most of the required school supplies to students. You will not be receiving a list of needed supplies to purchase to begin the year. Students will be provided with the necessary supplies for each of their classes by their teachers within the first few days of classes. While we will be providing students with the needed supplies to start to the year, we will not necessarily replace those items if they become lost or damaged. For this reason, I encourage you to have a conversation regarding the importance of properly caring for the supplies provided. 

    Student Breakfast & Lunch

    Continuing this year, all students will be eligible for free breakfast and lunch. As a part of this program, we require all families to complete a Household Income Eligibility Form. This form will be sent home the first day of school. À la carte items will still be available for purchase.

    Student Schedules

    Student schedules were mailed home at the end of last-week. If you were attending summer school, this schedule may change based upon summer school results. Although every student’s schedule is carefully checked, there is always the chance that we overlooked something.  For this reason, we ask that you take the time to examine your schedule and contact the school with any questions.  Drop/Add will take place Monday, August 26th through Friday, August 30th. Should schedule changes be necessary, Mrs. Burns will be available from 8:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday, and 8:00-11:00am on Friday.   We encourage students to make changes before the start of school in order to ensure a smooth beginning. Please call to set up a time to meet with Mrs. Burns before stopping in to make schedule changes. Guidance can be reached at 566-2221, ext. 1125.

    Spirit Week

    The Leader in Me LEAD Team in conjunction with the elementary Lighthouse Team met during the summer, and planned our Fall Spirit Week. This week ends with the Spud Jug, and the Homecoming Dance. The daily themes are:

    • Tuesday, October 1 - Twinning Day
    • Wednesday, October 2 - Pajama Day
    • Thursday, October 3 - Compound Word Day
    • Friday, October 4 - Maroon & Gold, Tiger Pride Day
